It's Been A While

April 5th, 2007 (12:50 am)
current mood: tired

It really has been forever since I've written last, and I don't really have time for a decent update now (I will this weekend when I go home for Easter). I am just avoiding doing my Women's Studies paper, and I'm avoiding packing (probably a really bad move). Things at Chapel Hill are going very well. I am content, but I am also sort of lonely. I guess I miss home a lot still. I'm such a homebody. :)

I've finally decided on an English major, so that's good. I've started writing my novel, and Elyssa has read what I've written so far. She likes it, but I'm too shy to share it with anyone else. Maybe one day I'll work up the courage to show it to someone. But it would have to be someone who understood...

Oh well. It's just a thought for now. I should probably return to the WMST paper. Or maybe I'll pack...

It's a really pretty day outside. Eve, Meredith and I were hanging out on Polk place for a while this morning. It was a lot of fun- until Eve and Meredith started playing Mariah Carey and singing along. The scary part was that the shirtless man laying out near us also started mouthing the words too. There are so many amusing people here!

Anyways, I am currently working on picking out my classes for next semester. It seems like I'm going to be taking a lot of random stuff. I have no idea what I'm going to major in, but I think I'm going to try taking a journalism class and a PWAD class to see if I like either of those subjects. Anyways, all in all it's been kind of a boring day. I did see Alex and Will by Lenoir when I was walking to the school of government with Meredith though. That was fun. Alex and Will are the coolest ppl. ever.

I'm a Tarheel born, I'm a Tarheel bred...

So, I consider the above title to be somewhat less than true. When I started looking at colleges, I absolutely knew that UNC Chapel Hill was the *perfect* fit for me. I couldn't have been more mistaken.

I am not a college basketball fanatic- in fact, I disapprove of college athletes. The only member of UNC's basketball team whose name I can remember is David Noel. I can remember him because he played last year when I was forced to watch the NCAA tournament because my father wanted to. I'll admit, I routed for Carolina then, and I was happy when they won. However, I never realized what a HUGE part of Carolina this basketball atmosphere is. I mean, every time there's a game, 99% of the people on my buddy list from UNC put up away messages like: 'GO TARHEELS!'  or "Watchin' da game!" or 'TyLeR hAnSbRoUgH iS mY bAbY dAdDy!'  Um...ok. Even worse, people fill up every restaurant with a tv on Franklin Street and cheer for their beloved Tarheels. What. the. heck?!  I mean, maybe I lack school spirit- I did as a freshman in high school. But I seriously think that this whole basketball thing has gotten out of hand. Let me start out by saying, first and foremost, that up until around January, I still didn't know any of the UNC basketball players' names. I only went and looked them up AFTER my whole incident in Lenoir calling Tyler a loser to his face. I still refer to Marcus as Marvin occasionally. Even though I know their names now, I STILL wouldn't recognize a UNC basketball player if he fell out of the sky onto my had in full basketball uniform with his name printed on the back, carrying a basketball. If anything, I'd probably kick him for falling out of the sky onto my head.

I just think this all needs to stop. Tyler Hansbrough is not a God.  Neither is Bobby Frasor. The freshman UNC players aren't "teh shit." Get over it people. They are just athletes. It's pathetic the amount of attention these guys get simply for being good at something. I mean, you don't see doctors getting this much notice for being skilled at surgery. You don't see businessmen getting this much recognition for making decent business deals. Get over it. They are just people! Arrg. If I have to hear ONE MORE girl say something like, "I totally, like, saw Bobby Frasor today, and like, he sooo smiled at me!!" on her cell phone- I will vomit... on her shoes. Go that? End the basketball madness! It's unnecessary and stupid!

Back to School, Oh Back to School...

March 18th, 2006 (11:45 pm)
current mood: tired

So, it's been a while since I've written. I pretty much avoided the internet for most of my break due to the fact that I may have loaded The Sims Complete Edition onto my computer. It's proven to be a very bad decision on my part indeed, because I've been playing it quite a bit. I think it brings out the control freak in me. It's not my fault that I have an unhealthy obsession with wanting to completely control every aspect of people's lives! I never knew of this obsession until I discovered my first edition of the Sims- still running on my Mac at home.

Break has been pretty good. Some exciting excerpts from it follow below

Friday night: Ate way too much ice cream w/ Katie and Ginger, had loads of fun.
Saturday night: Finally saw Walk the Line(A-MAZ-ING!!) and Red Eye(also very good)
Monday: Bought The Sims...

Wednesday: Ok this day deserves it's very own special recognition, because WEDNESDAY was the day that my grandmother came over to my house unannounced and I pretended that I wasn't home... I'm a horrible person, I know. But in my defense...well there's nothing I can really SAY. Just come down to Charlotte sometime. Meet her. Then you'll know. I ended up fleeing the house and going to lunch w/ Matty!

Thursday: Another day that deserves special notice. We got my piano tuned- hooray! On the down side- the guy who tuned the piano- Archie- was here for TWO HOURS AND FIFTEEN MINUTES! And he required MY help for everything, he asked for a drink AND lunch, and he took the phone from me and talked to my friends while I was on it! It's really lucky for him that I wanted the piano tuned, otherwise I would have beaten him to a pulp.

More happened, but there's too much to write. Maybe I'll update more when I go back to school tomorrow- it's doubtful though.

HOME!!

current mood: ecstatic
current song: "This Love" Maroon 5

At long last, Spring Break has arrived here at UNC. People have plans to go to the beach, or Mexico, or anywhere really, with their friends. *I* am going home to Charlotte, where I can relax, be alone, and possibly convince my father to buy me a digital camera. :) I'm also going to spend time with friends there and search for a fantabulous summer job. *Ahem* Moving on....

My plans for today/tonight:
9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.: Packing/room cleaning/procrastinating
1:00 p.m.: Head over to Matt's room
1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.: Wait for Matt's parents to arrive
2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.: Drive to Charlotte/arrive in Charlotte
5:01 p.m.: Call Ginger and Katie

After that, the whole time thing gets a bit sketchy, but the gist of events should go something like this:

Meet up with those two and the father for dinner
Rent movies and go to HT
Go back to the house
Take over the den and watch movies
Try to anger Alex as much as possible by showering him with affection.

My life is so wonderful.

An another note, I've decided to start a thing posting my favorite away message of the day b/c some people on my buddy list are REALLY creative!

Away Message of the Day:
okay Instructors: Cancelling class is cool, really cool... especially the day we leave for Spring Break... but what's even cooler... and although the walk in 70 degree weather across campus could've been worse, but still.... is telling us ahead of time, thanks guys.

yours in USMC Arts (martial that is),
J

My Day So Far

March 7th, 2006 (02:03 pm)
current mood: amused
current song: Julie's Video Game-esque Interactive Biology Homework

I went to bed at 2:00 a.m., and I can't remember why. That's never a good sign when you can't remember half of what you were doing the night before and you weren't drunk or on drugs. Oh well, I guess it wasn't really that important if I can't even remember it.

Anyways, my 2:00 bedtime prompted me to skip Econ at 9:30 for the FIRST TIME ever. I woke up at like 9:15, shut my eyes for a second, and when I looked back at the clock it was definitely 9:30 already. So I resigned myself to skipping class, and was about to go back to sleep when my cell phone rang. It was Ginger calling me from the beach to tell me about her night of drunken revelry. She made me laugh sooo hard. I absolutely love Ginger. It's sad that she's at stupid State b/c I've been going to school with the girl since the first grade. :( I miss her. Anyways, I'm going to get to see her on Friday when I go HOME for break! I'm really excited.

Yesterday I also got a call from Katie because she was sending me a picture of my future husband - her 37 year old millionaire second cousin named Joseph. He doesn't KNOW that I'm going to marry him yet, but he will soon. I'm also seeing Katie over break too. This all makes me very very excited because as much as I LOVE UNC, I miss my friends from back home. I cannot WAIT for Friday. Too bad it's only Tuesday now...

current mood: blank

Why Online Quizzes LIE:

You'll Find a Boyfriend Within 3 Weeks

You're out enough to meet plenty of guys
And it shows, because a few are interested in you
Even if you haven't meet the right guy yet
He's standing just around the corner :-)

Why Sometimes They Don't...:
The PJ's You Are Most Like: Comfortable PJ's

You're a bit conservative, traditional, and tend to follow conventions
You have an understated, easy sexyness that men love
People instantly find comfort in you, and you're a "best friend" to many.

Links Tempt Me

March 7th, 2006 (12:50 am)
current mood: accomplished
current song: "Another Day"

I have recently come to the realization that I have a serious, serious problem. Links on people's AIM/facebook/whatever profiles TEMPT ME. I just want to click on them and see whatever it is that people are so enthused about that they feel it necessary to actually take the time and effort to add a link to it on a page as public as a personal profile. Of course, this just means that I'm going to get a horrible computer virus when someone IMs me one someday in the near future. Because I WILL click the link. I just can't resist! It's a serious problem. :(

Moving away from my huge problem...

Today was good. I was productive and did about 6 loads of laundry. It probably should have been about 3, but I forgot the 2nd half including my sheets in my room when I went down to the laundry room. Of course, leaving the laundry wouldn't have been a problem if our washing machines didn't LOCK after the first minute. -__- After my long laundry filled day, I went to Lenoir for dinner w/ Elyssa and we met up with Crissy there. Then I went to DiPhi, which gets more and more ridiculous the more time I spend there. Victoria petitioned tonight. What I heard of her speech was wonderful, but I was distracted from most of the process because I was sending and receiving text messages. Oh well, it was fun. I got to wear my pretty pink corset- which I think I might wear for Halloween this year. After DiPhi, Elyssa and I talked extensively with Clark, and he drove us to Pita Pit. I miss Linda's already, but no one was at DiPhi tonight because everyone has midterms. Ew.

So, it was a pretty uneventful day/night, but I had a good time. Of course, the fact that I still have all that laundry to actually put away makes me kind of sad.

My Weekend Was Fun

March 6th, 2006 (01:10 am)
current mood: hungry
current song: "Iris" The Goo Goo Dolls

This weekend started out really really badly. First I got a really bad test grade on the Biol 50 test I'd studied for ALL WEEKEND last weekend- a grade which I found out about on Friday. Then, I got sick on Friday, and I really just thought things were going to be downhill from there. They weren't, thank God. On Saturday, I was feeling much better, so I went to Rams Head with Elyssa and Matt. Then later that day I met up with Elyssa, and her brother Jeff and his friend Jamie, both of whom were visiting from the US Naval Academy. We went to dinner w/ Elyssa's roommate Rachel. That was a lot of fun. Then Elyssa, Jeff, Jaime, and I all went to Ryan's room in Granville and watched the Carolina vs. Duke game. WE WON. That's right. We kicked Duke's butt...even if our basketball team does sort of suck at life. Moving on- we then went to Franklin Street and watched people jumping over bonfires (I think Jamie was one of those ppl...), and we ran into Nathan, Jeff S, Brandon, and more guys from the Naval Academy. There was ALMOST a fight between the Navy Boys and some UNC lacrosse player who was angry b/c the Academy beat us in lacrosse earlier that day. It was really disappointing that the UNC boy didn't learn a lesson. Aren't I just full of school spirit? Anyways, after Franklin, we went back to Granville where we waited for Jacob to drive me my wallet, and then he drove us back to Elyssa's dorm. It was a fun night, and I was happy. :)

Today, Elyssa and I studied at Caribou all day...again. It's sickening how much time we spend there. Anyways, I am off to bed now so that I can be ready for my lovely Bio class tomorrow morning.
